Skylight Installation & Repair in the San Fernando Valley
The San Fernando Valley is one of Hollywood Skylights’ most active service areas — the Valley’s abundant sunny days, hot summers, and large single-family housing stock make skylights both practical and popular. We’ve been installing and repairing skylights across the Valley for over 20 years, from North Hollywood and Van Nuys to Chatsworth and Thousand Oaks.
Heat Management is the Key Issue
The Valley regularly sees summer temperatures 10–15°F higher than the Westside, and that changes the skylight calculus significantly. On south- and west-facing roof planes, we always specify low-SHGC glass — typically Cardinal LoE3-366 or equivalent — to minimize solar heat gain. Uncoated glass on a west-facing Valley skylight turns a living room into an oven by 3pm in August. We’ve remediated a lot of poorly-specified skylights from other contractors over the years, and the SHGC spec is almost always the culprit.
Motorized venting skylights with rain sensors are worth the upgrade in Valley homes — they let you flush heat out in the evenings when outside temperatures drop, functioning as passive cooling rather than just a light source.
Valley Housing Stock
The Valley has enormous variety in its residential construction — post-war tract homes in Van Nuys and Reseda, larger ranch homes in Encino and Tarzana, hillside custom construction above Ventura Boulevard, and newer gated community development in the western Valley. We’re experienced across all of these building types and adjust our installation approach to match each property’s specific roof structure, roofing material, and interior ceiling configuration.
Commercial Skylight Work in the Valley
The Valley’s industrial corridors, retail centers, and office parks have significant commercial skylight demand — particularly in the light industrial areas of Chatsworth, Canoga Park, and Sun Valley. We install and service commercial-grade skylights from Lane-Aire and Solar Industries on these properties, including smoke vent configurations required for warehouse occupancies under LADBS and LA County Building and Safety.
