Skylight Installation & Repair in Calabasas

Calabasas is defined by its planned communities — gated neighborhoods, HOA-governed streets, and homes built primarily in the 1980s through 2000s with tile roofs and large floor plans designed for the California lifestyle. Hollywood Skylights has served Calabasas homeowners for over 20 years and understands both the technical demands and the community process that work here requires.

Concrete Tile Roofs

The dominant roof material in Calabasas’s tract and semi-custom construction is concrete tile — S-tile or flat tile in earth tones. Skylight installation on a concrete tile roof requires careful removal and resetting of tiles around the opening, with flashing designed to integrate with the tile profile. This is more involved than composition shingle work, and it needs to be done correctly to maintain the roof’s waterproofing integrity. We’ve installed skylights on concrete tile roofs throughout the Valley and Hill communities and know what proper installation looks like.

HOA and Gated Community Considerations

Many Calabasas homes are subject to HOA architectural review. Before starting any project, we recommend confirming with your HOA whether a skylight installation requires prior approval and what the submission requirements are. We provide product specifications, site plans, and any other documentation your HOA requires as part of the review process.

Heat Management

Calabasas shares the warm inland climate of the San Fernando Valley — summer temperatures regularly hit the 90s and above. South and west-facing skylights should use low-SHGC glazing (Velux LoE3) to limit solar heat gain. Solar-powered fresh air skylights with rain sensors are a practical passive ventilation solution for this climate.
